Jill Urwin is founder of She's Lost Control, London's leading conscious lifestyle brand specialising in crystals. In 2019 she launched her sister company Crystal Clear, which is a not-for-profit social enterprise to empower artisanal mining communities globally. Since launching, Jill has raised $2500 for a mining co-operative in Bahia, Brazil, which is in partnership with Brian Cook of Nature's Geometry. Not only is it Jill's passion to lead the dialogue on responsibly sourced crystals for the wellness industry, but she also recognises that it is her responsibility as a key player in the market to work towards transparently transforming a somewhat outdated industry.
Jill began her career as a fashion buyer for 10 years, and after struggling with the ethics, opaque supply chains and throway nature of the industry she decided she needed a more creative and meaningful angle so she retrained as a jeweller in 2011. The world of jewellery then led her into the world of crystals which is her main focus today, but with her realisation that transparency was just as much of an issue in jewellery and gemstones, she decided to use her past experience in sustainable development in fashion to help to shine a light on the world of crystals. Her past experience includes a scholarship at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion in London, project work with leading sustainability advocate Bryan Spooner, and providing business mentorship for emerging sustainable brands.
